Vocals workshop & Keynote “The Classical Cretan Lyra in Western European Music”

 

In this Vocals workshop the vocal mechanisms will be presented. The voice anatomy will be described, as well as the correlation and relationship between the body and the voice, the ways the autonomous neural system affects stress management, and how stress affects the voice. More than that, vocal qualities concerning all the vocal application kinds will be analysed.

With simple instructions and tips , questions will be answered on how the voice works, as well as how the vocal health can be achieved.

KEYNOTE – “The Classical Cretan Lyra in Western European Music” – Yiorgos Kaloudis

Presentation of the 18-year research-study of the cellist, lyra player and composer Yiorgos Kaloudis for the classical Cretan lyra.

An traditional Cretan lyra readapted, with new applied interpretation techniques, inspired by his classical education and experience, for the interpretation and recording of one of the most important works in the history of music, the JSBach Solo Cello Suites .

In May 2021, he completed the recording of his new 4-year research, entitled “La Reveuse”, on Old Music (Middle Ages & Renaissance), with a repertoire from 970-1700 AD. After J.S.Bach, the classical Cretan lyra travels back in the centuries, to the time of its birth.

The composer will talk about how he inspired the creation of the classical Cretan lyra, he will unfold the interpretive possibilities
and the new techniques he applied to it to perform Western European music, from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque to the modern era.

Yiorgos Kaloudis, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Theatrical, Cinematographic and Music Studies of the University of Crete, and under the scientific supervision of Professor Manolis Seiragakis, creates an educational method for the Classical Cretan Lyra.

 

BIOGRAPHY 

IRINI TSIRAKIDOU

Irini Tsirakidou collaborated with the interscientific team ‘Voice Mentoring’, which consists of special vocal scientists and works with the vocal repair and explores the miracle of human voice through the collaboration of different specialties. 

With many years of experience, both in international operas and vocal education, she collaborated with 4 artists for the creation of PhonoQuest, a non profit company that aims in creating a communication channel betwen science and the art of voice.

 

YIORGOS KALOUDIS

Yiorgos Kaloudis is a cellist, classical cretan lyra performer, improviser, composer, cello professor at the Athenaeum Conservatory, in Athens.

His discography consists of the albums, TRUTH, ON THE WIND, APTERA, DRIOPI, with his compositions, and the J.S.BACH: CELLO SUITES ON THE CRETAN LYRA, released by the DNA Label Records. In Autumn of 2021, his new work will be released titled “La Reveuse” EARLY MUSIC ON THE CLASSICAL CRETAN LYRA.

He performs the recitals “Aptera” (Innovating Tradition) with his own compositions for solo cello and classical Cretan Lyra, and the double album “J.S.BACH: Cello Suites on the Cretan Lyra” and “La Reveuse” on Early Music, in concert halls, archaeological monuments, churches and museums around the world.

Rokka and Kera villages are located in the northwest of the Prefecture of Chania, in the Municipality of Kissamos, 12 km from Kissamos, 39 km from Chania and 55 km from Chania airport. Following the E65 National Road from Chania to Kissamos, and turning to the Nopigia to Kera – Rokka hub, you will not have difficulty finding us. Rokka’s Square is located in the center of the village, right next to the main street from which you will come.
