The point of reference of the artistic direction of Giortes Rokkas was the transformation of Kera village into a grand theatrical stage, with the original theater act of Kera A Stage, under the artistic direction of Mety Panagiotopoulou. A whole village became the live stage where the visitror, with his map at hand, attended theatrical acts and short interpretations of a versatile and diverse troupe.

Every year we give power to professionals that are either based on or from Crete, artists with international presence in performance art from all around Greece, as well as foreign artists. All artists “come with” their colleagues, shaping a massive network of professionals that gather, coexist and collaborate even after Giortes Rokkas. During the event, wherever you go in the villages, someone rehearses, someone takes a lesson, others take videos or photos, others sit in the cafe and talk to the locals, others participate in the workshops. People of all ages, arts, interests meet, eat together, create and transform Kera into a theatrical village. And as the inhabitants said… “Our villages transform into something new”.

Our Vision

to subvert the traditional viewing scheme and create a holistic experience to the viewer, in a way that the limits between theater and life, art and reality are interweaved, challenging the viewer to doubt the traditional roles in theater. The viewer and the artists mingle creating a new theatrical reality.

At the same time, it wishes to achieve a holistic approach to the theater art through its educational programs and its concurrent acts, which are addressed to professional artists as well the general public.

The main goals of the Kera Mia Skini theater event concern 2 sections:

The first section revolves around the art of theater itself and this section includes the following objectives:

research about the performing arts

the empowerment of young artists

the education of  the professional artists

networking between local artists but also with international collaborations

The second section focuses on audience development and interaction with the local community. In this section we meet the following objectives:

To make theatre accessible to everyone. Even in a small inland village, a living core of art can be created that connects other cities, turning it into an extroverted place of culture.

To bring children and young people in contact with the theatre, aiming to express themselves and create new things

To explore new participatory processes in the performing arts
