Lanterns Workshop

Free participation

For 2019, the lanterns of artist Georgina Drakouli-Solo, who has an international presence in the fields of visual arts, will have as their theme the houses of the villagers and they will be exhibited at the Opening Ceremony in a large stage setting. During the workshop the participants will be initiated into the art and secrets of the manufacture of the lanterns. With bright colors and natural materials, they will capture a fantastic, colorful, unfocused scenery inspired by Rokka and Kera villages. A small village made of lanterns will be created for Giortes Rokkas 2019.

Biography

Georgina Drakouli Solo

Tzortzina Drakouli Solo is an independent artist with a wide range of skills in painting, sculpture, design and production. With many years of specialization in the visual arts, she has worked with a vast array of materials. Her love for what she has done has led to many projects of a social nature, the subject of which varies from immigration to sexual education to young people, or environmental education. She has been a member of Amnesty International for more than twenty years, participating in the campaign to liberate prisoners of conscience. She is a member of the environmental organization Extinction Rebellion, supports animal rights and is a member of Greenpeace.

Instructions

Rokka and Kera villages are located in the northwest of the Prefecture of Chania, in the Municipality of Kissamos, 12 km from Kissamos, 39 km from Chania and 55 km from Chania airport. Following the E65 National Road from Chania to Kissamos, and turning to the Nopigia to Kera – Rokka hub, you will not have difficulty finding us. Rokka’s Square is located in the center of the village, right next to the main street from which you will come.
